Galashiels traders support offer to boost business

Of the 129 companies that participated in the survey, 110 of them voted for the introduction of the BID.

The initiative – supported by the Scottish Government – aims to support the economic growth of a town or business district.

It is normally run by the private sector and can help generate additional revenue to help increase visitor numbers and footfall.

There are currently over 30 BIDs operating in Scotland, with one already operating on the Tweed Valley borders.

Project manager Mags Fenner, who was also in charge when the previous vote went against the project in 2018, said: “To have successfully managed the project last time is fantastic.

“I think the BID is going to make a huge difference to Galashiels.

“It’s a huge opportunity for the city because it puts businesses in the driver’s seat.”
