Local teams take top honors at regional cheer competitions and advance to states

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – Three of our local high school cheerleading teams won their respective regional competitions this weekend and are now preparing for states!

Four other teams also secured second place and will also qualify for the national competition in December.

In their final year as a school, Liberty finished strong and won the Region II AA competition! Doddridge County took second place.

In the Region II AAA competition, Lewis County, who, according to their coach, suffered numerous injuries days before the competition and was forced to compete with only seven girls, overcame all obstacles and came out on top! Lincoln got second place.

Fairmont Senior received top honors in the AAA Region I competition and will be heading to the United States.

Also in the Region I competition, the University achieved second place in the AAAA. This was the first year that teams competed in the AAAA division.

In the Region II A competition, Tucker County placed second, which also qualifies it for the state competition.

The national cheerleading competition will return to the Charleston Civic Center on Saturday, December 14.
