Germantown taco shop to permanently close after nearly 20 years in business

Swanky Taco Shopa Memphis staple that once had three locations in the metro area, has announced the permanent closure of its Germantown restaurant.

Demolition is planned for The Standard Development of Germantownformerly known as Carrefour, where Swanky’s is located.

Swanky’s in Germantown will permanently close its doors on Wednesday, November 27th.

The location was the first Swanky’s restaurant, opening at 6641 Poplar Ave., #109, in 2005. During Swanky’s two decades of influence on the Memphis taco scene, they have made a name for themselves as a venue fast and casual, suitable for the whole family. – with a bar.

Rather than finding a new home for the team in Germantown, Swanky’s staff will team up to work out of the only remaining location at 4770 Poplar in East Memphis.

“It has truly been our pleasure serving you over the past 20 years,” Swanky’s said in a social media post. “It’s time for us to close our chapter at the Crossroads, our first home, Germantown Swanky’s.”

In May 2019, Swanky’s opened a store in downtown Memphis on Main Street in the Chisca Building. This location closed in 2022 and was replaced by Chisca’s lobbyist in 2023.
