If you received more than one ANCHOR – Christmas didn’t come early discount, it was a mistake.

THE ANCHOR program provides property tax relief to New Jersey residents who own or rent property in the state as their primary residence and who meet certain income limits.

The state Department of Treasury is aware that some residents inadvertently received more than one ANCHOR property tax benefit this year, due to a fraud prevention error.

“Several issues contributed to this duplication, but it was primarily a result of our anti-fraud measures,” the Treasury spokesperson said. Darryl Isherwood told NJ.com on Monday.

In mid-October, the online tool for checking ANCHOR rebate status was placed on maintenance due to technical difficulties caused by potential New Jersey residents suspected of fraudulent activity on their accounts.

What to do if you receive two discounts?

Residents should mail it to the Department of the Treasury, New Jersey Division of Taxation, PO Box 266, Trenton, NJ 08695-0266. Residents can also call the ANCHOR hotline at 609-826-4282 or 888-238-1233.

Can I still apply for the ANCHOR discount?

Eligible residents can still apply for the NJ Anchor Discounts Online with their ANCHOR ID and PIN. If you do not have this information or have not received the benefits letter, you will need to use the ID.me system for identity verification.

The new deadline for homeowners and renters to apply for the popular property tax relief program is now December 6, 2024.
