It was so uncomfortable to watch

We need to talk about Hannah. She is one of the cast members of this year’s very polarizing season MAFS United Kingdom who has been on the show the least amount of time, but the impact and shitstorm Hannah has created has been immeasurable. All Hannah has to do is walk into a room and you watch the majority of female actors bristle. It’s a wild watch, and it’s hard to imagine a campaign of pure schoolgirl nastiness directed at someone who – let’s face it – doesn’t really deserve it.

Last night’s episode of MAFS UK 2024 really proved it to me: Hannah is the most misunderstood actress of all the brides and grooms this season. And it broke my heart to see someone feel like they had to navigate the chaos of what this show has to bring to these actors’ lives pretty much alone.

Last night, we saw Hannah join the group on Girls’ Day, alongside other cast members who left the show during previous commitment ceremonies. The series did everything to make her arrival intense and annoy the other girls. Despite the fact that time had passed and everyone Hannah was connected to had pissed her off in the context of the show, she walked into the room and Holly barked “look what the cat dragged in.” I mean, where do you go from here? From there, Hannah was on the receiving end of what looked like a dog pile. The girls accused her of “preying” on their husbands. Hannah went on a date with Orson – who Richelle had no interest in. It was also revealed she had struck up a friendship with Ryan – who was married to Sionainn.

Hannah couldn’t have been clearer: she and Ryan became friends after MAFS UK because they both needed someone to discuss their experiences with and both felt left out of group discussions rather than other brides and grooms had in progress. That wasn’t enough for the group – and beyond Amy and Emma speaking up for Hannah and saying she didn’t deserve to be harassed, it seemed like Hannah couldn’t not win in the scenario. I felt extremely sorry for her.

Hannah is not an angel. The mistake she made on the honeymoon with Stephen was despicable, when she used what he had confidently told her as ammunition. I think she was discordant and wrong on several occasions, but the way she was never able to redeem herself in the eyes of the group even though they had been merciful to other cast members who had made mistakes similar turned out to be extremely playful and naughty.

Hannah has since spoken out. She revealed in her story: “Ryan and I built a really beautiful friendship when we both came out of the experience and that’s all it ever was! We never dated and we were never in a relationship. If someone took a minute to ask us, we both would have happily confirmed it, but no! Instead it was playground whispers, rumors and a public ambush from hearsay AGAIN!

“All the other actors formed friendships (boys and girls) and were chatting, meeting up, enjoying a little WhatsApp group that we were excluded from and as always, it was more than okay for everyone to bond. friendship – but of course not for me!” It’s actually horrible to hear.

And while we see leaders of the anti-Hannah brigade on MAFS UK, like Holly, doubling down on their behavior in this episode, I think it’s worth saying that looking at the montage we saw as that viewers, he was not an actor who deserved such isolation. Like Hannah said, she had only known them for a week – she didn’t owe them anything. And she has every right to have a friendship with male actors without being treated like she just tore up a marriage.
