Premier League relegation battle: Opinion – “No team should be in panic mode right now”

As a player, it’s tough not having won in weeks and knowing that everyone you play against is counting their chances against you.

Teams will do this to you because they want to make you uncomfortable and historically teams at the bottom of a league don’t have good away records, which can then create anxiety for home matches because there is more pressure on them.

It doesn’t matter how that first victory comes about, but it’s so important. But then you will immediately look at the calendar and wonder when the second one will come?

Everyone is objectively aware of how good the top four teams are, but some other teams are tough as well. These mid-table teams are often more robust.

In reality, to survive you need between eight and 11 wins per season, but if you don’t believe you can achieve that, that’s another problem.

Players need to be able to handle any scenario thrown at you in the Premier League, but unfortunately for many of these teams at the bottom of the ladder, they are so new that they cannot rely on their previous experiences. Lessons must be learned quickly and then applied for results to begin to occur.

But fans also need to look at the performances as well as the results.

Supporters may be considering other managers as an option, but the grass isn’t always greener – what if it makes no difference?

It’s okay to have positive performances but get nothing out of the game – because at least you know you’re on the right track. It’s when performance isn’t good that we can start to worry.

But that said, no team should be in true panic mode right now.
