There are those who play a game, even finish it, and that’s it, but there are also those who play it again, analyzing every step, wanting to know everything about how it was made and who was a part of it. For this type of fan, the name of the actress who played one of the most important characters in the game and in the history of Metal Gear was one of the most confusing mysteries: Tatyana, Big Mama… or simply Eva, the spy. who played a key role in Snake Eater and would reappear in Metal Gear Solid 4. But there was one problem: Suzetta Miñet didn’t exist, or at least there were no references to her or her other real-life work, she only appeared in two credits, both Metal Gears in which she participated. A piece of the puzzle was missing.

All theories pointed to Ariel

Let no one be fooled, obsessive amateur sleuths on the Internet can be very good at uncovering the smallest details. It was obvious that Suzetta Miñet was the pseudonym of another actress. And Hideo Kojima always liked to surround himself with big Hollywood names, so a clear suspect was quickly marked in red: Eva sounded a lot, albeit in a different register, like the original voice of Ariel, Disney’s Little Mermaid: Jodi Benson. But no one has ever been able to get confirmation.

Finally, a delighted David Hayter, who seems to be enjoying his return to the Metal Gear spotlight as emcee of the Snake Eater remake, was able to reveal who his co-star really was. Interviewed by him and the unforgettable Lori Alan, who plays The Boss, Benson revealed that she chose a pseudonym because her career was so closely tied to Disney (she also appeared in Toy Story and voiced Barbie herself in Toy Story 2′). It was her voice director, Kris Zimmerman Salter, who approached her with the option to protect her career and that Mickey’s company would not be upset that “her” Little Mermaid became a murderer and spy in a permanent bikini in a video game.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, is announced for 2024 on the PC, PS5 and Xbox series. It’s unclear if Benson’s name will finally appear in the credits or if Suzetta Miñet will be drawn one last time for nostalgia’s sake, but at least we finally have an answer to this mystery.
