John Fisher pledges $1 billion to build Stadium A in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — Athletics owner John Fisher and his family will invest $1 billion in building a stadium in Las Vegas and U.S. Bank and Goldman Sachs will offer a $300 million loan, the executive said Thursday of the club, Sandy Dean.

Dean made his remarks during a special meeting of the Las Vegas Stadium Authority board of directors.

Dean said four letters will be presented at the Dec. 5 officials meeting, saying construction details and financing will be in place. Final approvals are expected to be given at that meeting to allow construction of the $1.5 billion, 33,000-seat domed baseball stadium.

“We believe we are on the right track and that will become clearer in the coming months,” Dean told the board.

Work is expected to begin in the spring with an expected opening before the 2028 season. No less than $380 million in public funding will be devoted to the construction of the stadium, which will be located on the Las Vegas Strip, in the location where the recently demolished Tropicana.

The A’s will play at least the next three seasons in West Sacramento, California.

They played their last of 57 seasons this year in Oakland, California.
