With projections made in most states across the country, ABC News predicted that former President Donald Trump would win the high-stakes presidential matchup against Vice President Kamala Harris. Early Wednesday morning, Trump secured enough Electoral College votes to prepare for a second presidency, including flipping the key swing states of Georgia, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

Beyond the presidential race, voters also went to the polls Tuesday across the country and cast ballots to decide who controls Congress, state and local governments. Journalists from 538 and ABC News followed every step of the process with live updates, analysis and commentary on the results. Follow our election coverage in full below.

Trump adviser says Trump and Harris not yet connected earlier this morning

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are reportedly not yet online as of early this morning, Trump senior adviser Jason Miller said on ABC News’ Good Morning America.

“The last time I spoke with President Trump, they weren’t connected, but we’ll see what happens today,” Miller said, then emphasizing the message of unity.

“I think what President Trump said last night when he took the stage was that he wants to heal the country. This is the moment where we put aside political divisions. We bring about Democrats, Republicans, people who are not necessarily on the same level involved in politics together,” Miller said.

How Donald Trump won the presidency

Over the next few months, ABC News and 538 will be doing a lot of analysis to determine exactly how Trump won. After all, he may be only the second Republican presidential candidate since 1992 to win the national popular vote. This warrants not only some soul-searching on the part of Democrats, but also a lot of quality analysis. And the fact that Trump swept key states — while not surprising — also represents a new high point for his electoral success.
