Although the bonus provides some relief, campaigners have criticized the stagnant £10 amount, which has not increased in line with inflation and the rising cost of living.

Recipients of certain benefits, including Personal Independence Payments (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Carer’s Allowance, are set to receive a special bonus in the coming weeks. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will award the Christmas Bonus, intended to provide modest financial assistance during the costly festive period.

This £10 boost will be automatically deposited into eligible people’s accounts, with no application required.

The Christmas bonus is intended to help people on low incomes and will appear in bank accounts throughout December. If recipients notice an unknown deposit, it is probably this annual bonus.

The government says: “The Christmas Bonus is a one-off tax-free payment of £10 made before Christmas, paid to people who receive certain benefits during the qualifying week. This is normally the first full week of December. »

They point out that there is no need to apply, as payment should be automatic, adding: “You must also receive at least one of the following benefits during the ‘reference week’ – this is i.e. normally the first full week of December.”
