Hyderabad citizens grapple with poorly maintained pedestrian bridges, traffic violations and illegal parking-Telangana Today

Poorly maintained pedestrian bridges

Several foot overbridges (FOBs) across Hyderabad are badly affected due to lack of proper maintenance. This is one of the main reasons why commuters and walkers generally go out of their way to avoid using them in the first place. Several neglected and dilapidated road over bridges (ROBs) in Hyderabad have become unusable, forcing commuters and pedestrians to risk their lives while crossing busy roads. For example, the KPHB FOB is completely unusable, with non-functional elevators and accumulated waste. Piles of garbage and dirt have become a common sight on the FOB, making it difficult for commuters. Due to the overpowering rotten smell emanating from the dustbins, commuters avoid ROBs. The KPHB FOB is a prime example of this neglect. With non-functional elevators, accumulated trash and a pervasive smell, it has become a health hazard and an inconvenience for commuters. I call on the authorities to act quickly and launch a major initiative to properly maintain the ROBs. — P Naresh Kumar, KPHB.

Truck parking, a big nuisance for motorists

Truck

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that Erragada-Sanatnagar road lies in the middle of the city and is one of the busiest roads that connects Begumpet. However, although this is a busy stretch where traffic is heavy throughout the day, every day between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. a large number of transport trucks are parked along the road main, leaving little space for normal traffic. Every day, hundreds of trucks queue along this main road, from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m., creating numerous nuisances for local residents. The presence of such a large number of transport trucks always creates enough space for anti-social activities. There is little room for normal traffic, causing frequent traffic jams on a daily basis. I call on the authorities, in particular the police and the traffic department, to act quickly on this problem by providing alternative parking areas for transport trucks inside the industrial zone and to avoid that Accidents don’t happen at midnight. — Swarnesh Vikram Singh, Czech colony.

Check the sewage on the roads

The road towards Yellareddyguda Colony/Srinagar from Ameerpet main road is always flooded either by sewage or overflowing drains. The condition of this vital artery, which experiences heavy traffic throughout the day, is worse, even though it was repaired and relayed a few months ago. With garbage lying on both sides of the road at many places and water overflowing on the roads, it becomes very difficult for pedestrians as well as vehicle users to ply this main road. I request the authorities concerned to immediately improve the condition of the roads and try to keep the city clean. — Katuru Durga Prasad Rao, Hyderabad.

Controlling traffic violators near Doyens Colony

The overall traffic management across multiple locations in Hyderabad is at its worst. Traffic violations of all kinds are happening unchecked at different places in the Twin Cities. Be it driving on the wrong side, using high beams, rash driving or jumping traffic lights, such violations have become all too common in Hyderabad. Take for example the main road between Alind Employee Colony and Doyens Colony near Serilingampally, where wrong-way driving is commonplace and violators escape scot-free. A similar pattern is observed between Supreme Sports Club Studio, Alind and the TVS showroom in Doyens Colony, where car and truck drivers use high-powered high beams and arrive on the wrong side of the main road, with complete impunity and without fear of being punished by traffic. authorities. Quite often, residents here have tried to address this problem with motorists who do not follow the basic rules. However, most often, motorists hurl insults at them before leaving the scene. I request the traffic authorities to step up action against violators in Alind and Doyens Colony, Serilingampally. — Jai Raj, Hyderabad.

Open plots become landfills

Open lands in settlements where owners have not yet built their houses conveniently become dumping grounds. Very often, it is also due to the negligence of the plot owners that the open plot becomes a favorite dump not only for the residents of the colony but also for the sanitation department of the municipality. A typical example is open plot number 90, Netaji Nagar colony, road number 2 in Kapra, next to Daffodils apartment, which has become a dumping ground. It is not just the residents of the colony, even the electricity and sanitation staff who use the open ground to dump their waste. While the electricity department employees throw away the tree branches after cutting them, the sanitation department just throws away the garbage cleared from the road. As the residential welfare association’s follow-up has not worked, I request the authorities concerned to intervene and make arrangements for removal of waste and cut trees at the earliest. — N Shiva, Netaji Nagar, Kapra.

There are no vacancies left at Balanagr Y Junction

DSC 6016 191

The Balanagar Y junction witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day, making it very important for the authorities to ensure smooth flow of traffic. However, for some reason, the traffic authorities recently decided to remove free left at Balanagar Y junction, which causes more traffic problems than it solves. Instead of easing traffic flow, major traffic jams are now the order of the day, with motorists stuck for a long time waiting for traffic to resume, due to the lack of a free left. Authorities must ensure the smooth flow of traffic in such densely populated regions. — Mohd Ghouse, Kukatpally.

Bharat Nagar flyover transforms landfill

Bhartnagar waste

I am writing this to draw the attention of civic officials to the sad situation at the Bharat Nagar flyover. The surrounding areas near the Bharat Nagar flyover, especially below, have become ideal for local owners of commercial establishments to dump their waste. The area has also become a preferred place where residents can dump their domestic waste. Apart from all this, the empty space under the Bharat Nagar flyover has become an attractive destination for truckers to park their heavy vehicles. The entire stretch of the main road is filled with empty trucks. Parking of heavy vehicles also provides privacy, attracting many anti-social elements to the area. I urge city authorities to act quickly and carry out regular checks and also provide drivers with a better place to park their heavy vehicles. — Sai Kiran Reddy, Motinagar.

Widening Ranigunj road under bridge

There is an urgent need to widen the existing road under the Ranigunj railway bridge, which is causing a lot of nuisance in the form of massive traffic jams along the busy MG Road-Paradise-Ranigunj stretch. The stretch has become a real bottleneck due to traffic coming from Tank Bund and heading towards Paradise and traffic from Paradise heading towards Tank Bund and beyond, causing significant traffic jams throughout the day. While civic officials and SCR coordinated and widened several rail bridge tunnels, including those on the Rail Nilayam-Mettuguda section and Tukaram Gate in Secunderabad, which ensured smooth traffic flow, it was not the case in Ranigunj, which is a densely populated area due to wholesale and commercial establishments. Owners of commercial establishments in Ranigunj and Paradise area have repeatedly urged the civic authorities to widen the tunnel, but so far no one has taken any action. I ask the authorities to take a firm decision and expand this section. —Mehul Kumar, Ranigunj.

Put the brakes on reckless driving

It is appropriate to bring to the attention of the authorities concerned that the road between Fateh Darwaza and Shahalibanda Volga Hotel (old) has been widened recently. The width of the road then increased considerably. However, due to the lack of separation barriers, young people drive the vehicles at high speed during the night. There is a risk of accident due to careless driving. Therefore, I request the traffic police officers to please place cement blocks to serve as road separators on the stretch. — Azam Khan, Fateh Darwaza, Hyderabad.
