If a voter’s name or address is not current on their ID, additional documents will be required to prove residency, such as a utility bill, bank statement or rental agreement. When additional documents are provided to prove residency, an expired ID, passport, or student ID is acceptable as a photo ID to prove identity.

Complete information is available from the Secretary of State.

Early voting began September 20 in Minnesota. As of Monday, local elections officials had accepted 1,174,224 ballots statewide, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office.

Voters who have already obtained an absentee ballot can still return the completed ballot to the election office it came from until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Alternatively, these voters will still be able to vote in person at their polling place, and the mail-in ballot received earlier will be canceled.

Those who live in a mail-only precinct will need to return their ballot by 8 p.m. Tuesday to the election office where it came from. The electoral office is considered the voting place for these voters.
