Domestic strangulation suspect arrested after brief confrontation in Tulsa

Early Tuesday morning, a man was arrested after a confrontation with police officers in Tulsa.

According to the Tulsa Police Department (TPD), officers responded to a home near 31st and Utica around 4:30 a.m. after receiving a call about a disturbance.

Upon arrival, the victim ran to police and told them she had been assaulted and strangled by Matthew Moreland. Police said the woman had several visible injuries.

Investigators learned the victim was assaulted by Moreland inside and outside the home.

Moreland allegedly left the house and re-entered it, ignoring the police.

TPD said its department had probable cause to arrest Moreland for domestic strangulation, so officers set up a perimeter around the home.

While developing a plan to get Moreland out, officers learned he had a felony warrant out of Arkansas.

Police said Moreland exited through the back door after a short standoff.

He was arrested and taken into custody.

After signing a search warrant, officers collected evidence of the domestic violence incident as well as a firearm.

Moreland was convicted of domestic strangulation and possession of a firearm AFCF.

TPD said Moreland was also wanted by the Tulsa Fire Department for arson.
