THE New York Giants continues to have a poor quarterback situation, as Daniel Jones once again failed to replicate the success he experienced in 2022 that led to a playoff appearance. New York has lost three straight games and is 2-6 this season, with its chances of clinching a playoff spot fading with each passing week.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones continues to struggle

Jones was benched in the fourth quarter of their Week 7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, perhaps the biggest indicator that the Giants are running out of patience with him. His struggles continued in Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where Jones was more animated than usual in expressing his frustrations.

Former Giants cornerback Logan Ryan appeared on CBS Sports HQwhere he stated that he believed this was the last season Jones played for New York. Ryan was Jones’ teammate for two brief seasons from 2020 to 2021.

“They tried to give him as many chances as possible. They tried to put talent around him, they tried to build an offensive line, and it just didn’t work, and they even tried to get him a No. 1 receiver in Malik Nabers, which didn’t work. “Helped me a little bit,” Ryan said.

In years past, there were other factors to blame for why Jones struggled so much. But those areas were addressed this offseason, strengthening the offensive line and signing one of the top receivers in the class, Malik Nabers, who already showed superstar potential in his rookie season.

Therefore, there is no excuse for mistakes this time around, and Ryan suggested that time is running out for him to prove himself. He added that given the state of despair the team is currently in, Jones should take advantage of this opportunity to show what he is capable of.

“I just want to see Daniel Jones let loose,” Ryan said. “Being around him as a former teammate, you love being around him during the week. He’s one of the hardest workers in the locker room and he takes responsibility when things don’t go well, but now you want to see his best ball in the fourth quarter.

Sixth grade was more of the same for Jones

Jones has had a roller coaster season. After a poor performance in Week 1, he improved his play from Weeks 2 to 5, including an excellent Week 5 performance in which he threw for 257 yards and ran for an additional 38 while throwing two touchdowns and no interceptions in an upset victory against the Seattle Seahawks.

However, since then, he has regressed drastically, with zero passing touchdowns and two interceptions in his last three games. Lack of consistency has been an issue that has followed Jones throughout his six-year career, and there have been no signs of significant improvement over time.

Overall this year, he has thrown just six touchdowns and five interceptions in eight games, including no passing touchdowns in four home games. The Giants also rank 22nd in yards per game with 195.1 and 31st in points per game with just 14.6.

As the Giants approach the halfway point of the season, the focus for the remainder will primarily be on evaluating their players and determining who is best suited to build going forward and who is not. Unfortunately for Jones, only a substantial turnaround late in the season could be the saving grace for his tenure with the Giants.
