Pokémon Go players shocked by surprise bans: ‘It’s so unfair’

What was supposed to be a big Gigantamax weekend for Pokémon Go Gamers turned out to be a disaster for some after many Pokémon fans were greeted with unexpected warnings and bans on Saturday. Before the Gigantamax events can begin, Pokémon Go players received notifications that they were using unauthorized third-party programs or had otherwise violated the rules. A few Pokémon Go players were lucky to get away with just a “warning” even though they said it was a mistake anyway, but the less lucky were banned entirely, causing them to miss the weekend Gigantamax.

THE Pokémon Go Warnings about alleged unauthorized activities began appearing on Saturday as players prepared for the Gigantamax. A player posted a screenshot of his review on Reddit stating that he had received a seven-day strike during which his account would be monitored. If they made one more mistake, they would risk a ban.

“We have detected activity on your account that indicates that you are using modified client software or unauthorized third-party software in violation of our Terms of Service,” the notice states. “This is the first strike against your account. This will last for about 7 more days. We strongly encourage you to stop this activity. Any further transgressions will result in account suspension.

The player said he had done nothing to justify the strike, which is what people usually say when they are in danger of losing access to Pokémon Gobut in this case (and many others today) they are indeed false warnings. Many other actors within the Pokémon Go subreddit corroborated reports like these by saying that they had also received warnings and, in some cases, been banned outright.

“I was in the middle of a raid a few hours ago when my account was suspended,” said one Pokémon Go said the player. “I’ve been playing since day one, I’ve never (cheated), I don’t even know how to cheat in this game. I appealed but got no response. 30 days without reason.

While one might expect that the summit Pokémon Go the post in today’s subreddit would be about Gigantamax Venusaur, Gigantamax Charizard and Gigantamax Blastoise, the post is more about this fake ban issue. Almost everyone is saying the same thing thing there – they didn’t do anything wrong, and Niantic doesn’t help much outside of sending canned responses urging players to follow the rules. No one knows why they are banned or if these bans will remain, but many players are slapped with a 30-day ban. If these are not reversed, it means that the people concerned Pokémon Go players will not only miss Gigantamax events but also Halloween events which are also in progress.

Pass Pokémon Go events rarely went smoothly, and in most cases when something goes horribly wrong, events can be rescheduled or players can receive some form of compensation to make up for lost time. Once Gigantamax Weekend is over, it wouldn’t be surprising to see something similar happen when it comes to all these bans.
