Lancia unveils a teaser of the 2026 Gamma Electric Fastback

  • Lancia’s Gamma will launch in 2026 as a mid-size electric fastback, built on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform.
  • It will be Lancia’s first exclusively electric model as part of Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategy, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2038.
  • By 2028, the Lancia range will be entirely electric, starting with the Gamma, and eventually the Delta.

Updated 10/25: It’s been a year since we’ve heard anything official about the next Lancia Gamma, but today Stellantis finally dropped us a teaser. Don’t get too excited, though: the “news” just repeats what CEO Luca Napolitano has already confirmed in 2023. Yes, the mid-size Gamma will be built on the STLA Medium platform, and yes, production should start at Stellantis. “Melfi factory in Italy in 2026. In other words, nothing new here, but we think Stellantis needs to keep the Lancia revival hype on life support somehow.

“The new Lancia Gamma represents an important step in our journey to the future,” says Luca Napolitano, CEO of Lancia, in what is beginning to sound like standard corporate optimism to hide gloom and doom. “It embodies our brand’s commitment to sustainability and high performance, while celebrating the unmistakable elegance that has defined Lancia for decades. By producing it at the historic Melfi factory, we are strengthening our connection to Italy’s rich automotive heritage and advancing our vision of an electrified future. Gamma will showcase the best of what Lancia represents: innovation, style and a relentless pursuit of excellence. »

Lancia has revealed its roadmap for the coming decade, and it’s no surprise that electrification is taking center stage. The journey began with the introduction of the new Ypsilon in 2024, which will be followed by the launch of the flagship Gamma EV in 2026, and culminates with a fully electric Delta in 2028.

The Italian brand has confirmed that the next Ypsilon will be offered in purely battery-powered and hybrid variants. However, from 2026 the company will exclusively introduce new electric vehicles, and by 2028 its entire range will consist of electric models only. This implies that the Ypsilon hybrid will have a relatively short lifespan, just four years.

In 2026, Lancia is expected to launch its first exclusive electric vehicle, which will be manufactured at the Stellantis factory in Melfi, Italy. Measuring 185 inches (4.7 meters) long, it will be about the same size as a BMW Series 4. Lancia CEO Luca Napolitano says it will be a stylish fastback based on the STLA media platform. Notably, it previously confirmed the resurrection of the Gamma nameplate. “Our second flagship car, scheduled to debut in 2026, will be called ‘Gamma’,” Napolitano said.

“The flagship product of Casa Lancia will be a beautiful and elegant Italian car, beautiful on the outside and beautiful on the inside, where it will really look like what you feel in the living room of an Italian house,” Napolitano said. “The STLA Medium platform will be perfect for Lancia, as a native BEV will be very efficient and guarantee high levels of comfort, offering both a front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive version.”

Thanks to its platform, Lancia anticipates that the flagship model will get up to 435 miles (700 km) of range per charge. It also expects 50 percent of sales of the electric vehicle to come from European countries outside of Italy.

Unfortunately, few details have been revealed about new Delta, expected for 2028but speaking to Italian media in the past, Luca Napolitano confirmed the compact model’s return, saying: “It will come back and it will be a real Delta – an exciting car, a manifesto of progress and technology, and obviously it will be electric . “.

The three vehicles announced today by Lancia are part of Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategy. The automaker hopes that this plan will allow it to no longer emit carbon by 2038.
