Kingda Ka, the world’s tallest roller coaster, has closed permanently

JACKSON, NJ (News 12 New Jersey) – The world’s tallest roller coaster has seen its final launch.

The record-breaking Kingda Ka roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey has been retired and will make way for new attractions.

Fans of the iconic Kingda Ka said their final goodbyes this week.

Matthew Kaiser with American Coaster Enthusiasts rode Kingda Ka for the last time on Sunday.

“We met a few people who even flew in just to put on Kingda Ka,” Kaiser said.

The 456-foot-tall roller coaster closed Sunday. It opened its doors in May 2005.

It is the tallest roller coaster in the world and launches riders at 200 km/h.

“It was the most intense pitch I’ve ever felt, and it still is,” Kaiser said.

Six Flags has confirmed the closure of Kingda Ka at the park, as well as the closures of Green Lantern, Twister, Parachute Drop and Sky Way to make way for new rides as part of a billion-dollar investment in its parks .

Six Flags Great Adventure announced next year that a boomerang-style ride called The Flash Vertical Velocity would open, followed by what they call a “multiple world record-breaking launch coaster” in 2026.
