Red Sox linked to $69M Dodgers superstar ‘Impact’ per Insider

If you’re a right-handed hitter with plenty of home runs under your belt, there’s a good chance you’ll hear about the Boston Red Sox this winter.

Although the Red Sox generally had a top-10 offense in Major League Baseball this season, they were far too dominant to the left. Dealing with a left-handed pitcher was a constant struggle and was a major contributor to Boston missing the playoffs by five games in the standings.

If the Red Sox want to return to October for the first time since 2021, they’ll need to add at least one straight bat with some serious thumping. And adding a crucial member of the roster that just won the World Series could be a good place to start.

Teoscar Hernández of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who was a target of the Red Sox last winter, is now a free agent again. On Monday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic discussed the Hernández problem. suitable for Boston, citing him as a possible “impact” signing.

Although Hernández has said he would like to return to Los Angeles, he has also expressed his fondness for hitting at Fenway Park, where he hit 14 home runs, the most at any road park in his career. He recentlyreiterated this notion to WEEI.com: ‘Everything about that field is good,’ Hernandez said of Fenway… ‘The atmosphere there is really good. The fans love the team. They’re going to the baseball stadium. And they support the team,” McCaffrey said.

“One caveat is his strikeout rate of 28.8 percent. Another is that he is an outfielder, so to add him to the outfield mix, the Red Sox would probably have to subtract one of their current outfielders, perhaps in a trade for a pitcher.”

Hernández, 32, set a career high with 33 home runs this season, along with an All-Star appearance, a World Series ring and a very solid .840 OPS. McCaffrey cited contract projections that Hernández would get between $60 million and $69 million on a three-year deal this winter, a hefty sum that many teams will still be more than willing to pay.

The Red Sox will have to be the aggressor if they want to land Hernández, especially because of his love for his current team. It’s not going to be easy, but signing the slugger is possible if Boston wants him bad enough.
