Hardin County Judge McDaniel issues disaster declaration

Hardin County Judge Wayne McDaniel issued a disaster declaration due to massive flooding in several areas after up to a foot of rain fell overnight, leading to flash flooding.

The declaration is intended to ensure resources are available to residents and businesses affected by this ongoing disaster.

TO REPORT DAMAGE

DISASTER DECLARATION

WHEREAS, on November 9, 2024, Hardin County, Texas was under imminent threat of widespread and/or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property resulting from severe weather conditions throughout the county created by flash flooding that occurred during a severe rain event on that date, during which 12 to 16 inches of rain fell over a 12-hour period in parts of Hardin County, in Texas. These conditions, which continue, have caused flooding that has caused significant damage to infrastructure and prevents access or safe passage on many roadways, as well as residential and commercial power and utility outages. Such conditions posed a risk to public safety; And

WHEREAS, the Hardin County Judge has determined, based on the circumstances and the forecast of additional rain over the next 24 hours, that extraordinary measures must be taken to protect life, as well as to protect or rehabilitate property, and are hereby ordered.

WHEREFORE, IT IS PROCLAIMED BY THE JUDGE OF HARDIN COUNTY:

I. That a local state of disaster is hereby declared for Hardin County, Texas, pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 418.108(a).

II. Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 418.108(b), this state of disaster shall continue for a period not to exceed seven (7) days from the date of this declaration, unless it be extended or renewed by the Hardin County Commissioners Court.

III. Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 418.108(c), this local disaster declaration must be given prompt and general publicity and must be promptly filed with the Hardin County Clerk.

IV. Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 418.108(d), this declaration of a local state of disaster activates Hardin’s Emergency Management Plan.

V. This proclamation shall take effect immediately upon its publication.
