Here’s what the Eagles’ Nick Sirianni said about the team not making a trade before the deadline

PHILADELPHIA – The NFL trade deadline came and went Tuesday afternoon, and the Eagles decided not to acquire or trade a player, such as defensive end Bryce Huff, to another team. A prominent figure in the organization endorsed the decision to take no action, even as other teams, including two in their division, finalized deals to change their rosters.

On Wednesday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about the team’s lack of movement. Sirianni said that although the general manager Howie Roseman could better explain the decision, he thought the list was already strong as constructed.

“From my perspective, I feel very strongly about our team and where we are,” Sirianni said. “When I talk about all these different things, I feel so connected to our team. Howie has done a great job building so far, and because of that we didn’t feel like we needed to do anything at that point. The guys we have here – I feel strong about the starters in terms of positions and depth. This is a testament to the work Howie and his team have done from the draft to this point.

Although the Eagles did not make a trade, four of their next six opponents did: the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Commanders’ acquisition of cornerback Marshon Lattimore will have the biggest impact, as the Eagles still have their two divisional games against Washington. Lattimore performed well against the Eagles in Week 3 while with the New Orleans Saints. According to Focus on professional footballwhen Lattimore faced the Eagles, wide receiver DeVonta Smith was targeted twice and Lattimore allowed just one catch for 14 yards.

The most important thing for the Eagles now is not only to keep winning to stay competitive with the Commanders, but also to make sure their best players stay healthy as the season goes on. Tight end Dallas Goedert could return shortly after injuring his hamstring, while left tackle Jordan Mailata and wide receiver Britain Covey continue to rehab while on injured reserve.
