Scooter’s Coffee raises over $1,300 for breast cancer event

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Last month, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we at 7news hosted a fundraiser with Scooter’s Coffee for Kelsey Wells.

Wells is a young mother from Lawton battling stage 4 breast cancer.

On Oct. 31, Michelle Verducci, general manager of Scooter’s Coffee, presented the checks, dollars and cents to grateful Wells, totaling just over $1,300.

“When we heard Kelsey’s story, a young lady like this, and every October we do something for breast cancer awareness, we just wanted to reach out to her and all of you, to help the community,” Verducci said.

The community continued to contribute to the fundraiser until the last day to support Wells.

“I feel so lucky to know that there is support for me,” Wells said.

Some of the support offered to Wells came directly from the cancer center’s support group.

“She gets to come to some of our meetings and listen to someone who is at different stages of their cancer, from the very beginning to the end,” Connie Leary said. “She can get through the whole thing, and we just want her to know that we have a listening heart and nine times out of ten, we’ve been there and done that.”

The Cancer Support Group meets every Wednesday at 10 a.m. for women, men and caregivers.
