The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees in the World Series, winning their eighth title in their storied history. The series was resolved in just five games, but it was generally closer than the final scoreboard indicated.

Yet the Dodgers knew the Yankees were going to struggle due to their poor fundamentals. That’s the scouting report they had and it turned out to be true.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post wrote Thursday that “the Dodgers considered New York the worst-positioned outfield in baseball heading into the World Series.” The Yankees had issues with some reads in key spots, issues that ultimately led to runs being scored in very close games.

There is more.

“What the Dodgers told their players in scouting meetings was that the Yankees were more talented than fundamental,” Sherman wrote, according to SI.com. “That if you run the bases with determination and aggression, the Yankees will inflict harm on themselves, as expounded by (Mookie) Betts, Tommy Edman, Freddie Freeman, etc. the Yankees execute. They mentioned that the Yankees were…the worst grassroots team in the majors in every way.

The Yankees ended up fighting

It was all true: the Yankees struggled with poor field positioning, poor base running, stupid decisions when fielding some key balls, confusing fielding and throwing errors, and a lack of fundamentals as we saw on the Gerrit Cole – Anthony Rizzo play at first base. in game 5.

You can find errors and blunders of all types in every game in the series. Even players like Volpe, who is a Gold Glover, have made costly mistakes.

Maybe if the Yankees had kept their mistakes to a minimum, we’d be watching Game 6 on Friday night. It’s impossible to prove, but they could have even run the show with better fundamentals and awareness.
