Cambridgeshire plans to build 125 new homes on land in March

A developer has applied for permission to build 125 new homes on land.

Fenland District Council approved plans in March for the Cambridgeshire development in 2023, but a more detailed application has now been submitted.

Neighbors raised concerns about the project near Princess Avenue when the initial application was made.

The developers, Balfour Beatty Homes, said they would create environmental “improvements” in the area and develop “necessary housing in March”.

Out of the Out of 125 housing units, 100 were to be sold at market prices, with the remaining 25 being transformed into “affordable housing”.

They would vary in size, from one to five bedrooms, and there would be play areas for children within the development.

The Local Democracy Service said residents expressed concerns as part of the application about possible environmental damage.

The impact on people traveling to and from the new homes, potentially making Princess Avenue an “arterial road” and an “accident waiting to happen” was also cited.

No concerns were raised by the highways authority at the time and district council planning officials said all issues raised had been taken into account.

The general request was then approved by the district council.

The developers said: “This site has the opportunity to provide a development that creates the housing needed in March, with high quality open space that also provides connectivity to the West March extension and March town center .

“The site will make improvements to the local environment to support the growth of biodiversity, improve pedestrian permeability, as well as providing drainage infrastructure to prevent flooding of the site and wider area.”
