Amendment 4 reaches $100 million milestone in fight for abortion rights

The Amendment 4 political committee’s fundraising crossed the $100 million mark in the final weeks before the Nov. 5 election.

Floridians Protect Freedom (FPF)the PC, which supports the initiative on the right to abortion, collected approximately 14 million dollars between October 12 and 18, according to the latest campaign finance report. This is the third week in a row that the campaign has raised more than $10 million, adding to the $100 million total raised since April 2023. FPF also spent nearly $13 million last week.

The fundraising comes as the FPF finds itself in the midst of a bitter battle against the government. Ron DeSantiswho is personally opposed to Amendment 4 and uses its podium and state resources to combat this. The latest legal war focused on The State threatens television channels with criminal charges for running pro-Amendment 4 ads.

“Last week alone we raised $14.34 million, showing our momentum continues to grow despite increased government interference in this campaign. While the opposition’s attacks and ability to spread misinformation in an attempt to confuse voters is appalling, it is clear that citizens across Florida are determined to remove government from their decisions on matters of health care and will not be fooled by these attacks. said Brice BarnesDirector of National Finance, Yes on the 4th, in a press release on Friday. “We are raising the unprecedented and necessary resources to be able to effectively communicate with and mobilize voters to win on November 5 and end Florida’s extreme abortion ban.”

FPF’s fundraiser last week was a combination of a handful of donations of more than $1 million from progressive organizations, coupled with grassroots support from the majority of donors giving smaller amounts.

The largest donation was $9 million from Fund sixteen thirtya liberal group in Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, more than 8,000 donors also gave $100 or less.

Currently, Florida has a six-week abortion ban in place. Supporters talk of a total ban, arguing that the exceptions for incest and rape require victims to present evidence with a police report or medical report, which, for various reasons, not everyone has. not. And pro-Amendment 4 doctors say Florida’s abortion laws create uncertainty for physicians providing pregnancy care to women with medical conditions or non-viable pregnancies with unborn children suffering from serious malformations.

DeSantis attacked FPF and defended the state’s abortion law, arguing that the law is clear and protects the life of the mother. He argued that the proposed constitutional amendment would deregulate abortion and feared that Florida would be forced to publicly fund abortions. He also deplores that the amendment could lead to the the state will become an abortion haven in the South.
