Salvation Army launches race to raise $1 million

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Louisville Salvation Army is hitting the ground running, hoping to raise $1 million before the end of the year.

Red Kettle kicked off Friday morning under the Twin Spiers at Churchill Downs.

You’ll see the Salvation Army’s iconic kettles and bell ringers outside stores and businesses throughout the holiday season.

This year’s fundraising theme is “Run to a Million Dollars.”

Money deposited into the kettles helps support the Angel Tree program. This year, 10,000 children need gifts.

Your donations also allow the Salvation Army to lend a helping hand throughout the year.

“There are people who don’t have a warm place to sleep tonight (and) they need a warm place,” said Maj. Mark Hunter, commander of the Army’s Louisville region. Hi. “The Salvation Army is here to help us. They might need a hot meal. They can come to our house twice a day and have breakfast and dinner for free, free of charge. They come in, it’s a hot meal.

They need hundreds of volunteers to ring the bells. You can find more information here.
