The 2024 NFL trade deadline has arrived, marking a critical decision day across the league.

As the deadline approaches Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, teams have one last opportunity to make a significant shake-up during the season, whether it’s making a splash for an established veteran or shipping one out for increase their recruiting capital or improve their salary cap. perspectives. Several franchises have already taken advantage of engineering contracts for notable names, and more could follow in the coming hours.

USA TODAY Sports will provide live updates on the latest news, rumors and deals throughout Tuesday, so check back throughout the day for more updates.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their long-awaited move for another wide receiver.

The Steelers reached a deal Tuesday to acquire Mike Williams from the New York Jets in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round draft pick, according to multiple reports.

Williams, 30, struggled to connect with Aaron Rodgers after signing with the Jets this offseason, with the veteran quarterback calling out the pass catcher for taking the wrong route on a play that would seal a loss against the Buffalo Bills with an interception. He has just 12 catches for 166 yards this season, his first return following a torn ACL suffered last September.

Still, the 6-4, 218-pounder could be a valuable addition to the pass-rushing attack now led by Russell Wilson. George Pickens leads the Steelers with 35 catches for 548 yards, but no other wideout has more than 14 receptions this season.

The Washington Commanders were one of the few teams at the top of the standings that had yet to make significant progress at the trade deadline.

That changed Tuesday, when the team reached a deal to acquire New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore. The Kansas City Chiefs were also in attendance, according to multiple reports.

The four-time Pro Bowl selection reinforces one of Washington’s biggest positional weaknesses. Opposing passers have a 103.9 rating against the Commanders defense so far this season, which ranks 28th in the NFL.

Lattimore, 28, has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Amid a string of other big-name receivers being traded, DK Metcalf is staying put.

The Seattle Seahawks will not trade their two-time Pro Bowl selection, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.

Metcalf has 35 catches for 568 yards and three touchdowns so far this season for the 4-5 Seahawks, who are just one game out of first place in the NFC West.

With three trades in the works on Tuesday, it’s time to take a look at the players who could still be candidates for a move.

  • Azeez Ojulari, OLB, New York Giants: He’s coming on strong with five sacks in his last four games. But if the Za’Darius Smith trade to the Detroit Lions clears the way for passers, will the potential return be enough to push general manager Joe Schoen into a deal?
  • Dalvin Tomlinson, DT, Cleveland Browns: He and fellow defensive tackle Shelby Harris would certainly make sense to be the next veterans to be let go from a team that has clearly signaled its long-term interest.
  • Arden Key, OLB, Tennessee Titans: Like the Browns, the Titans have made it clear they will consider moving established players who draw interest elsewhere. Key and defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day could be on the radar of teams looking to fortify their fronts.

Jerry Jones had an ace up his sleeve after all.

The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to acquire receiver Jonathan Mingo of the Carolina Panthers, sending a fourth-round pick while also receiving a seventh-round pick, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports’ Tyler Dragon. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the exchange was not yet official.

NFL Network was the first to report the move.

Prior to the deal, Jones said Tuesday during an interview with 105.3 The Fan that the team was bringing in a receiver the team really liked during the draft process.

Mingo, 23, was a second-round draft pick out of Mississippi in 2023. He struggled to find his footing amid the Panthers’ broader offensive struggles, catching just 43 of 85 targets during his rookie campaign. He has just 12 catches for 121 yards in nine games this year.

The Cowboys’ acquisition comes amid serious injuries on offense for the 3-5 team. Quarterback Dak Prescott likely to be placed on injured reserve and missing at least four games with his hamstring injury, Jones said Tuesday. Top receiver CeeDee Lamb is also dealing with a shoulder injury.

How did the Cowboys fare in our trade categories? Look away, Dallas fans.

The Cincinnati Bengals have added depth in the backfield as they prepare for a possible late-season run.

The Bengals acquire running back Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round pick, the Bears announced.

The Bengals faced an uncertain outlook at running back behind Chase Brown after Zack Moss was sidelined indefinitely with a neck injury that kept him out of Sunday’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Moss 74 has 242 yards and two touchdowns so far this season.

Herbert, 26, has been left out of the Bears’ last two games. He has just eight carries for 16 yards this season, as starter D’Andre Swift and backup Roschon Johnson have handled most of the work. Last season, however, he totaled 611 yards, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

The Detroit Lions finally have their replacement passer.

On Tuesday, the team acquired Za’Darius Smith from the Cleveland Browns, according to multiple reports. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Smith and a 2026 seventh-round pick would join the Lions, who in turn will receive a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Lions coach Dan Campbell had acknowledged for weeks that the team was exploring the market for a defensive end to replace Pro Bowl selection Aidan Hutchinson, who suffered a fractured tibia and fibula against the Cowboys from Dallas.

“I don’t think it’s entirely up to us,” Campbell said Monday. “I can tell you we’re trying, (Lions general manager) Brad (Holmes) is trying, and we looked at everything, we really did. He made a ton of calls and he kept going, so we Let’s see. We still have a little time here. We have until tomorrow evening, so we’ll see what happens.

Smith has five sacks in nine games so far this season.

Even though the talent pool has narrowed considerably in recent weeks, there are still several intriguing players at the top of our rankings:

  • 1. Azeez Ojulari, OLB, New York Giants
  • 2. Za’Darius Smith, DE, Cleveland Browns
  • 3. Jonathan Jones, CB, New England Patriots
  • 4. Arden Key, OLB, Tennessee Titans
  • 5. Chase Young, DE, New Orleans Saints

NFL trade deadline in 2024 is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

The cut comes midseason, as NFL owners voted in March to move it back a week from its traditional place in the league schedule. After Tuesday, teams will no longer be able to make official trades until the new league year begins in March, although they can unofficially reach deals with each other after the season.
