Chicago Bears vs. Arizona Cardinals: Who Wins and Why

In the midst of the sloppy Hail Mary and Shane Waldron’s fascination with big men doing more than playing at the line of scrimmage, a voice came from cyberspace, unwanted or not.

Caleb Williams’ father Carl tweeted #accountability and #realcoach with a photo of Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt saying “…I blame myself” for the way the Commanders gave the Bears the nod late during the day on Sunday. 18-15 defeat in Chicago.

The obvious inference is how the Bears coaches handled the aftermath of the Hail Mary, in which Tyrique Stevenson received obvious and deserved blame, but Matt Eberflus stood by his own decision not to guard the sidelines during from the previous scene.

Williams later spoke to WSCR’s Shane Riordan about the twee, which was later deleted, and Williams tried to revert it or disconnect it from the Bears coaches.

“It’s an innocent comment,” Williams told WSCR. “I like what the Commanders do. I know a lot of guys there. It has nothing to do with the Bears.”

RIGHT.

The jeannie does not return to the bottle once released on social networks even if it is deleted.

The simple fact that the father of the Bears quarterback coach tweeted strong support for the opposing coach after a loss like that is very telling.

So the Bears’ week of turmoil continued long after the initial afermath with more people outside Halas Hall and the team trying to prepare for the Cardinals.

Can the Bears overcome the off-field distraction? Talk about intangible benefits for Arizona. Wow.

It’s the Bears and Cardinals in the desert on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. Here’s who wins and why.

Bears Pass vs. Cardinals Pass Defense

Arizona’s pass defense is 26th in the league despite its creative use of safety Budda Baker at different spots. They can go hot and cold in the pass rush and rely heavily on linebackers Mack Wilson, Zaven Collins and Dennis Gardeck to spark a run.

CAN THE BEARS BOUNCE BACK AFTER LAST WEEK’S DEVASTATING DEFEAT?

IF BEARS PUNISH TYRIQUE STEVENSON WHY NOT SHANE WALDRON TOO

BEARS’ SECONDARY HEALTH IMPROVES BUT O-LINE LOSES BRAXTON JONES

THE BEARS BEST POSITIONED TO DO DAMAGE TO THE CARDINALS

The Bears have the opportunity to burn Arizona’s secondary for big plays, but the question is whether they can block well enough with another makeshift offensive line, and whether Williams holds up to the blitz he is sure to get after struggling so much against the blitz in road games. No benefits

Bears Running vs. Cardinals Run Defense

The Cardinals run defense has been poor. It’s that simple. He is ranked 26th and 21st in yards allowed per attempt. The only teams not to rush for at least 130 yards were the Rams, which is understandable due to their passing attack, and, surprisingly, the Chargers. Even the pass-happy Dolphins ran for 150. They lost Justin Jones early in the year and didn’t have an adequate replacement. They rely on former Bears like Bilal Nichols and Khyiris Tonga inside the line. The Bears have the ability to run D’Andre Swift, especially on the outside against a team giving up huge chunks on the perimeter. Even with Larry Borom taking over at left tackle, they should be able to run, but they need consistent yardage and not just scoring one in the third quarter like last week. Edge Bear

Cardinals pass vs. Bears pass defense

They better not leave Tyrique Stevenson on the bench for too long if they do, as Kyler Murray, Marvin Harrison Jr. and tight end Trey McBride are real threats, while receivers like Greg Dortch and Michael Wilson play good supporting roles. Running back James Conner also poses a threat in the passing game. The Bears’ status as No. 1 in passer rating and No. 1 in the red zone will be strained by Murray’s mobility and arm, and they’ll need as many regular secondary pieces intact, Jaquan With Brisker still out due to a concussion. . The pass rush will be key in this case, and Montez Sweat’s injured shin is not good news. No edge

Cardinals Running vs. Bears Run Defense

Conner is a 6-foot-1, 233-pounder who can run like a beast if Arizona’s line gives him room to start. He will make tackles and also have speed to escape. The Bears can’t afford the breakdowns they’ve had on occasion in run defense. Murray gets used occasionally on planned runs, and running backs Emari Demercado and Trey Benson also contribute effectively to the offense with critical roles. They are seventh in the race. The Bears’ run defense has stepped up and moved up its ranking to 14th after a poor start, but they’ll need to be even stronger to stop this ground game. Edge Cardinals

Special teams

Former Seahawks player DeeJay Dallas gives the Cardinals a kick return threat like the Bears haven’t shown they possess, at least once they were without Velus Jones Jr. in the photo. He’s averaging 30.7 yards and backup kick returner Greg Dortch has also been close to that mark. Matt Prater was perfect but used very rarely (6 tries) as the Cardinals tried to become like the Eagles and own the football while going more on fourth downs. Cardinals punter Blake Gillikin was solid with 10 punts inside the 10, but nowhere near Tory Taylor’s total of 15. And Taylor’s punt happened in all conditions, not in a dome where anyone can do it. No edge

Training

Jonathan Gannon has quietly started to turn the Cardinals around. They beat the Chargers and Dolphins back to back and those are opponents that few people would have given them a chance against early this year or last year. Matt Eberflus is at the center of the coaching controversy and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron is in charge. The Bears are terrible on the road and haven’t beaten a good team. Edge Cardinals

Intangible assets

The Bears always enjoy big crowds at away games in Arizona, but it’s always the road and Williams hasn’t been good away except when the Bears were at home in London. Most important of all is the effect of a week of unrest following the Hail Mary’s shocking defeat. It is one thing for the media and fans to question the competence of players and coaches. Do players and coaches do this among themselves? Edge Cardinals

Final score: Cardinals 26, Bears 17

Too many variables are working against the Bears in this one to think they can just do what they did last year after suffering a devastating loss to Denver that seemed like a win they had locked up. They returned the following week and routed Washington on the road. But there are other cases where they’ve had trouble and it hasn’t gone very well. Right after former defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned, they were completely routed by Kansas City, and they played one of their worst games of the year in a loss to New Orleans in during the week that running backs coach David Walker was fired. On top of all that, the Cardinals played well despite a much busier schedule.

The Line: Cardinals by 1 1/2 (Over/Under 44 1/2)*

Bears on SI record in Bears Games: 6-1 in a row, 5-2 against the spread.
