Marshall approves regulation of cannabis trade | News, Sports, Jobs

MARSHALL — On Tuesday, the Marshall City Council approved a set of local regulations for cannabis businesses. The updated city ordinances require licensed cannabis retailers to register with the city. They also limited the number of cannabis business registrations in the city.

“This builds on our existing registration system for our low potency hemp edible products” Marshall City Attorney Pam Whitmore said. “This ordinance creates additional registration for cannabis retailers.”

The proposed updates to the orders were introduced earlier this month.

Whitmore said the orders included “lots of new definitions” cannabis products and business types. The proposed ordinances also said the city would limit the number of cannabis business registrations in Marshall to two.

“State law requires a minimum of applications to be accepted or approved for retail operators, based on one per 12,500 residents” Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes said. “As our population is 13,906, that means our minimum is two.”

The order did not set a registration limit for retailers selling low-potency hemp products.

A new element of the ordinances that have been adopted since the council’s last discussion concerned the hours of operation permitted for cannabis retail sales. “Based on the recommendations of the Public Health Center, we have set the hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week, for all these retail sales,” » said Whitmore.
