SEQUOYAH COUNTY, OKLA. (KTUL) — The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reports that human remains were discovered in a densely wooded area near Tenkiller Lake.

SCSO said information from a deer hunter led officers to the area.

Several human bones were located.

Sheriff Lane said: “The bones were found scattered over an area of ​​approximately 200 yards, I hope we can recover enough to make a positive identification. The remains appear to be quite old and have probably been there for several years. »

The Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee Nation Marshals, Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office and District 27 DA Office are conducting an extensive search of the area.

The SCSO said the search will continue as long as weather permits.
