After several close attempts, Miami finally suffered the loss it deserved

After several close games against unranked opponents in a weak ACC conference, Miami finally got the loss they were waiting for as Georgia Tech beat the Hurricanes 28-23 on Saturday afternoon. That means the previously fourth-ranked Hurricanes now have one loss against a three-loss Georgia Tech team, Notre Dame outscored 31-13 and no ranked wins.

It will be fascinating to see how far the CFP committee lets the Hurricanes down for this misstep. A bad loss is one thing, but not having a big win to balance the ledger is another. It was a major disaster for Miami. There is no reason for the Hurricanes to land above the Irish when the next CFP rankings are released.

Georgia is one of the most talented teams in the country, but has two losses

No one will deny that Georgia has one of, if not the most, talented teams in the country in terms of raw athleticism and depth. It is also true that Georgia plays in a very competitive and respected conference. That being said, the Bulldogs now have two losses.

This is where the task of the CFP committee becomes truly difficult. How will this group fairly compare Georgia, a very talented committee favorite, and its two losses to other teams with one or no losses, but who have played lesser competition throughout the year? This will be one of the biggest revelations of the second round of the CFP rankings.
