“I am pleased to announce that former ICE Director and Border Control stalwart Tom Homan will join the Trump Administration, in charge of our nation’s borders (“Border Czar”), including , but not limited to, Southern Border, Northern Border, Maritime and Air Security,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there’s no one better to keep order and control our borders,” Trump said. “Similarly, Tom Homan will be in charge of all deportations of illegal aliens to their countries of origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt that he will do a fantastic and long-awaited job.

Trump’s selection of Homan comes less than a week after his victory in the presidential election, including the popular vote and all seven swing states.

Trump has promised to carry out the largest deportation in U.S. history, pledging to remove the 20 to 25 million illegal immigrants he says are in the country.

Homan said in an interview on Fox News Sunday morning futures that Trump planned to first target illegal immigrants with criminal histories for deportation.

“It will be the worst first,” Homan said, adding that he did not advocate military involvement. “It will be a humane operation, but it is a necessary mass deportation operation.”

Homan’s nomination means he won’t need to seek Senate confirmation, avoiding an ugly and potentially difficult process given Homan’s loyalty to Trump over the years. As “czar,” Homan will advise the president on border issues and be the point person for related matters.

Trump attacked Vice President Kamala Harris throughout his campaign, calling her an ineffective “border czar.” Harris was technically never named border czar, but he was tapped by President Joe Biden in early 2021 to take action that would end the flow of immigrants entering the country illegally from Central America.

Under Biden, more than 10 million immigrants have been welcomed at the nation’s borders, more than any two-term White House administration.
