Pauley Perrette Vows to Never Act Again After Unceremonious NCIS Exit: ‘It’s Like a Drug’

Pauley Perrette played a very important role in NCIS. Playing the role of Abby Sciuto in the series, her character was one of the most iconic parts of the series. However, many are wondering why she ended up leaving the show. Although the argument seemed internal, it appears that it had a dramatic enough effect on Perrette that he stopped acting as a whole.

During a recent interview with Hello Magazineshe confessed the reason she walked away from acting, and her motivations are quite interesting. She began by declaring that she would stop acting permanently. While this statement would upset many fans, his reasoning behind such a step forward makes a lot of sense.

She expressed that she was at a stage in her life where she wanted more reality in the world around her instead of living a manufactured life. She admitted that her relationship with acting had become very toxic, seeing it more as an escape than a profession.

At this point in my life, I have this deep need to find authenticity in everything, and being an actor, especially at certain times in my life, has been a great escape,” she continued. “C It’s like a drug because I didn’t have to be me, I could be someone else. My character didn’t have all the problems I had..

Perrette explained that when she acted, she sought to lose herself in the character she played in order to escape her own reality. Finding that their problems were much easier to deal with than her own, she confessed that she found acting to turn into something of an addiction.

Such a relationship with one’s profession can be very unhealthy, especially when it comes to the film industry. Since acting requires completely losing yourself in a character, it can be very harmful to mental well-being to view this feeling as an escape. Through this, Pauley Perrette began to notice her unhealthy habits and rectify them.

That’s why I only watch documentaries, I want the truth. For me, becoming an actor again would mean removing myself from this life of true authenticity that I live 100% of the time.

The actress admitted that she started watching documentaries to keep her perception of the world as authentic as possible. She mentioned the need for truth in every aspect of her life, including the type of content she consumes. Because of this level of progress she’s made, Perrette said she doesn’t want to return to acting and lose everything.

I am not ungrateful for the benefits it has brought me. But I’m a different person now and I want to be here for that – the good, the bad and the painful. I want to be me all the time, and it takes a lot of courage to tell myself that, but that’s authentically how I feel.

She mentioned that she is very grateful for everything she has been able to accomplish through her time as an actress. However, she feels it is time for her to close this chapter, as she is no longer the same person she was when she started acting. Wanting to be herself now rather than a character, the actress wants to protect the place she has occupied in her relationship with herself.
