The Colts’ dirty defense can’t stop Josh Allen and could warrant a fine later in the week

If you can’t stop him, hit him?

Taking the punchout of “Peanut Tillman” to the extreme, Indianapolis ColtsDefensive end Dayo Odeyingbo made several strikes Buffalo Bills‘Quarterback Josh Allen on a rushing attempt early in the fourth quarter Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Not only was Odeyingbo’s strategy ineffective in stopping Allen, who was carrying the ball safely, it was borderline offensive. Although no penalty was called on the field, it seems almost inevitable that the NFL will retroactively impose a fine for unnecessary roughness upon further review.

As the Bills, looking to extend their 20-13 lead, faced a 4th-and-1 from the Colts 15-yard line, they called their superstar quarterback’s number on a keeper over the middle. While Allen was running around the pile to gain extra yardage to the 10, Odeyingbo was swinging at the Bills ball carrier and his punches were reaching nowhere near the ball.

Odeyingbo threw three punches as Allen ran for miles and two of them appeared to land on the side of the quarterback’s helmet. DeForest Buckner was officially credited with the tackle on the play that gave the Bills a first down and a field goal to play.

While the Bills were forced to settle for a field goal, Allen would get revenge on Odeyingbo. On a subsequent possession in the red zone, the Bills QB1 cocked the defender like some sort of rag doll while advancing the ball past the sticks to the 2-yard line.

Allen’s legs played a big role throughout the 30-20 victory. He rushed eight times for 50 yards, four first downs and his 57th career rushing touchdown. THE a scorer tied the quarterback with the late Hall of Fame running back OJ Simpson for second place on the Bills’ all-time rushing touchdowns list.

Allen has 21 total touchdowns in 10 games this season. He has totaled more than 40 touchdowns in each of the last four seasons – an NFL record.
