ESPN Insider Predicts Jonathon Brooks to Make NFL Debut in Germany

Reinforcements are on the way to Carolina Panthers. While the team is in fine form after a 23-22 win over division rival New Orleans Saints, a handful of arms plan to make a comeback as the Panthers head west to Germany this week next, the most notable of the group being rookie running back Jonathon. Brooks.

According to ESPN’s David NewtonBrooks is on track to make his NFL debut in Germany against Brian Burns and the New York Giants. The rookie running back’s debut is highly anticipated. Carolina selected Brooks in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft knowing he was recovering from a season-ending ACL injury during his final season at the University of Texas. Brooks projects to be a versatile running back who can impact the game on the ground and through the air, making him an ideal complement to Chuba Hubbard who continues to chip away at rushing yards.

If you’re not familiar with Brooks’ game, here’s a quick scouting report from The Ringer’s Danny Kelly to help you understand what the rookie rusher will bring to the field:

“Brooks is tall, with a muscular, athletic build and lightning-fast feet. The former Longhorns star is a slippery runner who routinely makes unblocked defenders miss in the backfield… He displays excellent contact balance and the ability to absorb down body blows without being knocked down, and he has accumulated 63 forced missed tackles in 2023, per PFF (tied for 11th among all backs)… He displays considerable acceleration and the ability to get to the corner and beat defenders on the outside Brooks is a natural receiver who catches the ball away from his frame, demonstrating the ability to move upfield smoothly to. gain yards after the catch.”

According to Newton, free agent DJ Wonnum will also make his Panthers debut in Germany. Wonnum, 27, was signed by the Minnesota Vikings to add punch to a lifeless passing unit that lost its two centerpieces, Burns and Frankie Luvu. The fifth-year pro from the University of South Carolina is coming off an eight-sack season that skyrocketed his value among his compatriots at the EDGE position. Carolina could use some help. The team’s 10 sacks in nine games are tied with the Miami Dolphins for second-worst mark in the league, just ahead of the Atlanta Falcons.
