‘Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy,’ the World’s First Artistic Theme Park, Is a Must-See: How to Get Tickets

NEW YORK, New York — “Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy” the world’s first artistic amusement park, has enjoyed success since its debut on November 20. After a success in Los Angeles, tickets are now on sale for this special exhibition at The shed in Manhattan, open until January 5, 2025.

Originally created in 1987 by artist André Heller, “Luna Luna” was a revolutionary fusion of an amusement park and an art museum, featuring works by some of the most famous artists of the 20th century. century, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Salvador Dalí and Roy Lichtenstein.

The event in Hamburg attracted 300,000 visitors before the park’s treasures were abandoned for more than 30 years. It was later rediscovered by entrepreneur Michael Goldberg and purchased by musician Drake, who helped restore the pieces for a second world tour.

“You can be obsessed with art or have never heard of Basquiat, and Luna Luna will make you smile. It’s one of those rare projects that has the power to bring all walks of life together – it’s a nostalgic format done in a completely new way,” said Goldberg, chief experience officer for “Luna Luna” and founder of Something Special Studios.

Ticket prices are $44 on weekdays and $64 on weekends for adults, while children’s tickets are $35. For more information, visit www.lunaluna.com.

MORE ABOUT LUNA LUNA

The exhibit features a timeline linking the history of the park to the history of modernism, as well as a montage of the 1987 carnival showing animated children on Haring’s carousel. Haring’s carousel takes center stage in the exhibit but is cordoned off behind metal barriers to keep visitors at bay.

Visitors can also explore Basquiat’s Ferris Wheel, Scharf’s Wave Swing and Dalí’s Dalídom. New elements were created specifically for this revival, including Lichtenstein’s glass maze and Dalí’s mirror dome.

“For ‘Luna Luna’ at the Shed, audiences can experience the visionary works of some of the greatest artists of our time, all in the unique format of an amusement park,” said Alex Poots, Artistic Director of The Shed. “The Shed’s state-of-the-art spaces provide the perfect setting to transport audiences into the magical world of Luna Luna.”

The exhibit also includes archival materials detailing the park’s history and painstaking restoration process, and features roving performers, curated music, and an exciting, otherworldly ambiance.
