Teen Caught With Taylor Swift Tickets After 325 Days In Hospital (Exclusive)

Brilea Southard has been in the hospital for 325 days, recovering from serious injuries after another car slammed head-on into her family’s minivan.

She wasn’t supposed to be released for a month, but after a surprise announcement, the 15-year-old will take her first steps out of the hospital in a very memorable way: she will go to Taylor Swift’The third concert of the Eras Tour in Indianapolis on Sunday, November 3, Swift’s last concert in the Indiana capital.

Southard isn’t the only one who could benefit from the 34-year-old Swift. sold out tour. The teen will be joined by 15 other patients at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, all of whom are undergoing treatment for various health conditions.

The 16 pediatric patients found out the news this week at the hospital, where they planned to attend a Swift-inspired event to make friendship bracelets and play “Taylor Trivia.”

The final trivia question revealed the big surprise. “Who will be at Taylor’s final concert on the final leg of her US tour in Indianapolis?” hospital staff asked.

“Uh… Travis Kelce?, guessed a patient.

“Good guess, but no,” they were told. “You will all leave!”

One girl jumped out of her chair excitedly and others gasped and started crying with joy.

The news of their concert tickets might be the best update some kids have had in a long time. For Southard, the exciting journey comes next she and her family were involved in an accident in December 2023, where she suffered a torn aorta and crushed legs so badly that doctors said they would have to be amputated.

“I only had a four percent chance of surviving,” Southard told PEOPLE. She’s since undergone more than 20 surgeries, but her intestines and other organs remain shredded and “she undergoes wound management and dressing changes twice a week under sedation,” her mother, Paula Allen, tells PEOPLE.

Fortunately, doctors were able to save his legs.

A longtime Swiftie who dressed up as a superstar for Halloween, Southard says the pop superstar’s music relaxes her during painful procedures, so the chance to see her perform live is “just mind-blowing.”

“It’s going to mean so much,” Southard adds. The teen plans to wear black flared leggings and a sequined fringed jacket and will be accompanied by two nurses and a doctor and will return immediately afterwards.

“I feel very lucky,” she tells PEOPLE.

Another patient who was surprised with free suite tickets at the event is Emma Sully, 12, who received a heart transplant at Riley in December 2022.

“I literally can’t stop crying right now!” Sully said. “I can’t right now…I just can’t. I can’t hold back my emotions anymore.”

Ja’isaibella (Izzy) Boyd, 7, will also attend the show. She suffers from sickle cell anemia, an inherited blood disorder that causes life-threatening complications.

Boyd’s mother, DeAndria Powell, says Swift’s music helped her daughter cope with her difficult diagnosis.

“One of his songs, ‘Shake It Off,’ is one of the songs we use when a pain attack begins,” she said. “We always try to get rid of it before we take medication, see if we can get rid of it.”

Another concert attendee will be 11-year-old Charily Carty, who at age 2 was diagnosed with Beals syndrome, which caused her to develop severe early-onset scoliosis. She underwent bracing and casting of her spine, corrective surgery and will need further surgeries in the future.

Hearing the news of the concert was a ray of hope for the young girl, who wore pink heart-shaped sunglasses. “I felt like I was going to cry because I was so happy,” said Carty, who plans to distribute friendship bracelets to the other children in the show, said.

Tickets were donated by the Riley Children’s Foundation and Denney Excavating, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Swift will continue her Eras tour at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3.
