Launched for the first time in 2020, the GREEN100® IndexThe aim was to highlight organizations that are making significant progress in tackling climate challenges through patent-protected innovations. The inaugural edition, published in 2021, analyzed climate-related patenting efforts from 2015 to 2020, identifying key contributors. The second edition (2020-2021) captured real-time trends and emerging dynamics in the field of green technologies. Encouraged by the positive reception from stakeholders, Sagacious IP takes the initiative further with its third edition, adding new features and perspectives for 2024.

Highlights of the 2024 edition

A notable feature of the 2024 report is the inclusion of 100 global research institutions for the first time, highlighting the critical role that academic research plays in advancing climate-focused technologies. By recognizing both industry and academia, Sagacious IP seeks to foster stronger collaboration across sectors, encouraging joint efforts to accelerate sustainable innovation.

Our ranking methodology, developed under the guidance of independent advisors, including former EPO examiners, goes beyond simply counting patents. It also assesses patent quality, technological scope and real-world impact, providing a comprehensive view of each organization’s contribution to sustainability.
