THE general election is less than two months away, but many Lee County voters I already know who And what they will vote for. When does early voting to start?

Important dates are:

  • Voter Registration Deadline: October 7
  • Deadline to request absentee ballots: 5 p.m., October 24
  • Mandatory Early Voting Dates in Florida: October 26 – November 2
    • Each county elections supervisor can choose to offer more days of early voting, starting up to five days earlier or lasting one day longer.
  • Election day: November 5

Every county in Florida will have a mandatory eight-day early voting period before the election, but most counties, including Lee County, choose to start earlier and some will allow early voting on the Sunday before the election. Many early voting sites will be open earlier and/or later than during early primary voting.

The general election in Florida will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

What is early voting?

There are often long lines at the polls each election day, particularly in areas where there are not enough polling stations, with voters sometimes waiting hours to cast their ballots and some people cannot go to the polls on a Tuesday.

To address this problem, early voting was implemented to allow people to vote early at a more convenient time, with the same equipment used on Election Day.

When does early voting start and end in Lee County?

Any election that includes a state or federal race must provide early voting, which must occur at least from the 10th day before the election to the 3rd day before the election. Each county elections supervisor can choose to offer more days of early voting, starting up to five days earlier or lasting one day longer.

Early voting dates for Lee County are from Oct. 21 to Nov. 2, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Do I need ID to vote early in Florida?

To vote at an early voting site, you must have a photo ID. Acceptable forms of identification include:

  • Florida Driver’s License
  • Florida ID Card (issued by DHSMV)
  • American passport
  • Debit or credit card
  • Military ID card
  • Student card
  • Retreat Center ID
  • Neighborhood Association ID
  • Public Assistance ID
  • Veteran’s Identification Card (issued by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs)
  • Concealed Weapon Permit (issued in accordance with FS 790.06)
  • Employee identification card issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the federal, state, county or municipal government.

If your photo ID does not include your signature, you will be asked to provide another piece of ID with your signature.

Can I still vote in Florida if I forgot or don’t have ID?

If you do not have identification with you when you vote, you will still be allowed to do so, but you will need to vote on a provisional ballot which will then be evaluated by a canvassing board to ensure its correctness. eligibility.

How do I register to vote in Florida?

ONLINE: Go to Register at VoteFlorida.gov to submit your application for registration on the electoral lists. You will need:

  • Your most recent and valid Florida Driver’s License (Florida DL) or Florida Identification Card (Florida ID)
  • The last four digits of your social security number

If you do not have the required information, you can always use the online system to pre-complete an online voter registration application form that you can print. Sign it and mail it to your county elections supervisor’s office or drop it off.

  • The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle’s online system for renewing a Florida DL or Florida ID.
  • Any voter registration agency such as a public assistance office
  • Any voter registration campaign conducted by an organization that meets Florida’s updated standards
  • Any public library
