British hi-fi company reinvents its iconic 1960s speakers

Wharfedale released its first original Linton loudspeakers in 1965 and they were the company’s best-selling loudspeakers through the 1970s.

In 2019, the British hi-fi manufacturer relaunched Linton speakers as part of its Heritage Series – where he reinvented his iconic speakers from the 1960s and 1970s with modern technologies – and five years later he doubled down on the Linton even more.

The new “Great” Linton the speakers have the same vintage look as the old Linton (including the Linton released in 2019) but offer improved acoustics and promise superior sound.

Heritage look, superior sound

Wharfedale’s new Super Lintons are three-way floor-standing speakers – very similar to the Linton 3XP released in 1975 and not the Lintons released in 1965, which had a two-way design – with a large bass driver positioned under a midrange driver and tweeter.

Compared to the Lintons released in 2019 – named Linton’s 85th birthday models, which Wharfedale still sells – the Super Lintons are basically identical and have the same footprint, but each driver is slightly taller (increasing the volume of each speaker) and has new dual-layer construction for improved acoustics.
