The Democrats did not listen to the people; Trump and the Republican Party won big

Basically, Donald Trump was right about the Democrats. Their ideas and values did not resonate with voters.

America has lightened its future from what has been.

Donald Trump won a second non-consecutive term in the White House, the Republicans have a comfortable majority in the US Senate and the House of Representatives is within their reach.

Trump and the Republicans portrayed Democrats as out of touch with the American working class, and voters overwhelmingly agreed.

Undoubtedly, progressives grappling with electoral setback will worry about voters’ rejection of democracy, their unwillingness to understand the dangers of climate change, and growing toxic masculinity because of Trump. They point out that he will drop charges against him and speculate on who is on his list of “enemies.”

If there is enough vapor left in the tank, they will continue to point out that he is a morally suspect man with a foul mouth who says whatever he wants without regard for the truth.

The Democrats were defeated by the hubris and contempt of their fellow Americans.

For years, my Democratic friends have constantly explained to me that I am essentially a poorly informed voter. If I simply understood the gravity of the political moment, I would agree with them.

Where I come from, that’s called condescension. This is why the Democrats suffered such a significant defeat.

Republicans have focused on the issues that most concern the American working class: the economy, immigration and violent crime.

On the contentious issue of abortion, Republicans have neutralized the attack by arguing that the issue is best decided at the state level. On the other hand, Democrats placing health care and Supreme Court nominations as higher priorities than the economy.

Most voters chose Trump and a Republican-led Senate. That’s democracy.

On election night, the American working class voted for safe communities, built on stable jobs that won’t be filled by cheap undocumented immigrant labor.

America was so convinced that Trump was the best choice to answer these fundamental questions that it gave him a majority in the Senate to ensure that political appointees in his administration will almost certainly be confirmed.

Democrats and Trump’s most ardent critics will spend the next few months telling the American people what he should have done instead of learning from what he actually did. Until that changes, the Republicans will continue to gain momentum.

Basically, Trump was right about the Democrats. Their ideas and values did not resonate with voters.

Progressives are not the only guardians of American democracy. Now they are no longer responsible for the Senate or the White House.
