Man United 1-1 Chelsea PLAYER RATINGS: Which Red Devils star was clearly up for it? Who was arguably the best player on the pitch? And which Blues duo gets only 4.5/10?

Manchester United continued their resurgence under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy by securing a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Old Trafford.

United made their first Premier League outing on Sunday since the decision was made to terminate Erik ten Hag’s contract at the club, with Ruben Amorim since confirmed as his successor.

A scoreless first half set the stage for a much more entertaining second with Bruno Fernandes giving United the lead from the penalty spot only for Moises Caicedo to bring Chelsea level with a sublime finish moments later.

The two teams then played out a see-saw conclusion, with Alejandro Garnacho and Fernandes both wasting golden opportunities to win the tie in dramatic fashion.

Mail Sport’s KIERAN GILL gives his Old Trafford expert player ratings after the high-octane clash.

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1)

André Onana – 6

He almost played the hospital pass of the season when Chelsea had Casemiro circled in United’s own box. Impossible to pass in time to stop Caicedo’s volley.

Diogo Dalot – 6

Light yellow when he stepped up to stop Neto charging the United box, only to trip the speedster. Chelsea have not tested the right-back enough.

Matthijs de Ligt – 6.5

Twice he turned into a brick wall to fend off Palmer, first at point-blank range, then from afar. Unfortunately for United, their clean sheet was wiped out by Caicedo’s wonder goal.

Lisandro Martinez – 6

Accused by Colwill of kicking him in the box, but VAR cleared it correctly and quite quickly. Warned in added time after digging his studs into Palmer’s kneecap.

Noussair Mazraoui – 7

Clearly good for this one, which United fans enjoyed seeing as he looked like one of their best players, always bringing energy down the left flank.

Manuel Ugarte – 6

On the front foot as he pounces on a James pass in the middle of the park to create a chance for United. Booked for shoving Palmer out of sheer panic.

Casemiro – 6

Even the pigeons in the rafters at Old Trafford laughed as Palmer performed his touch-and-go trick on him. Don’t worry, Casemiro, he’s had a few casualties this season.

Alexandro Garnacho – 5

I tried to put one in the top corner after 24 minutes and then had an even better chance after 64. So often I showed the right intentions but poor execution.

Bruno Fernandes – 6.5

The calmest man at Old Trafford sent Sanchez the wrong way with his penalty, but was blinded by the headlines when he then blazed over his chance to win it.

United captain Bruno Fernandes made no mistake from the penalty spot and gave his team the lead.

Marcus Rashford – 6

He volleyed into the woodwork just as the half-time whistle blew. Rashford was one of the few to knock the butts off the seats with his deft stripping of Gusto.

Rasmus Hojlund – 6

He became very frustrated with the refereeing team as he felt manhandled, notably by Colwill, but won United’s penalty after being clearly brought down by Sanchez.

CHELSEA (4-2-3-1)

Robert Sanchez – 4.5

Chelsea have spent so much money on various positions and yet they still lack a world-class goalkeeper. Sanchez was so clumsy in fouling Hojlund for United’s penalty.

Malo Taste – 4.5

Gusto is a good player, but he doesn’t have the skills to come back from No.10, which is why he was hooked at halftime for Cucurella.

Wesley Fofana – 6

Poor error of judgment as the ball went into the box as United won their penalty as it went over his head and into Hojlund’s feet.

Levi Colwill – 6

He must have nails like Wolverine judging by the scratches on Hojlund’s neck after an altercation. Colwill and Fofana were forever embroiled in their own battles with the United striker.

Reece James – 5.5

Some are surprised that Cucurella is not on their “A team.” A sloppy pass gave United a big chance midway through the first half. I am still in great physical shape.

Moses Caicedo – 9

Great control to put the ball under his spell in the 74th minute for Chelsea’s volley equalizer. He was without a doubt the best player on the pitch here.

Romeo Lavia – 6.5

Now owed £105million, Fernandez down the pecking order due to the physicality he brings to midfield. Sacrificed after 70 minutes as Chelsea continued the match.

Noni Madueke – 5.5

I really should have headed home from three yards out in the 13th minute. Whether VAR would have let it go, after his push on Casemiro, who knows. It’s not his greatest game.

Cole Palmer – 6.5

He had his obligatory chances to score, but twice saw De Ligt make counterattacks. Showed his skills as usual, with one such incident leading to a nasty foul from Martinez.

Cole Palmer struggled to exert his usual attacking influence in the 1-1 draw.

Pedro Neto – 6

Shot narrowly wide from the far corner in the 55th minute. Chelsea fans would have liked to see him charging down the left side much more than he was.

Pedro Neto caused United's defense plenty of problems in this entertaining draw.

Nicholas Jackson – 5.5

Jackson’s hold-up and link-up play was nowhere near as effective as in previous performances. He’s a hard worker, but it wasn’t the striker’s best night.

Nicolas Jackson was well organized by United's defense as both teams settled for a draw.

“Fergie is right, the referees are bullshit,” the United fans chanted, even though he did them a favor by not dismissing Martinez.
