Abbotsford teacher banned for sexual assault of intimate partner

An Abbotsford teacher who was convicted of sexually assaulting an intimate partner has had his teaching certificate revoked.

The decision against Khaled Hanafi Dardir was signed on October 16 and published online Tuesday, October 29 by the British Columbia Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.

Acting Commissioner Donnaree Nygard wrote in the decision that Dardir was employed as a teacher at a middle school in Abbotsford when he was charged with three offenses on July 26, 2021: one count of sexual assault and two counts of assault.

The school district suspended him from teaching on August 18, 2021.

The document states that Dardir pleaded guilty to all three counts on April 14, 2023, and was sentenced in January 2024 to parole and two years of probation.

The district previously disciplined Dardir in June 2020 for stalking and sexual harassment of a co-worker, Nygard wrote.

At that point, he was suspended without pay for three days and had to take remedial classes.

In his decision, Nygard said revoking his teaching certificate was now an “appropriate consequence.”

“The criminal offenses committed by Dardir are of a nature that undermines public confidence in the profession and in the education system,” she wrote.

Nygard said Dardir’s conduct occurred more than once and over a period of time. Additionally, she said he was violent toward an intimate partner and that “his conduct constituted a breach of trust that underlies such relationships.”

The decision revokes Dardir’s professional qualification certificate, issued on January 19, 2017.

He could now choose to reapply for a Certificate of Qualification or for an Independent School Teaching Certificate or other authorization to teach in the K-12 education system.

However, Nygard wrote that in such a case the Director of Certification will be authorized to review the facts of the revocation decision, any documents or evidence collected during the investigation of the matter, as well as any evidence that ‘he violated the agreement.
