Dad is completely perplexed by a first grader’s homework and asks for help

If you’re a parent who finds your elementary-age children’s homework challenging, you’re not alone!

These days, it seems that children, who can’t even tie their own shoes, are expected to understand literature that goes far beyond their understanding of “Good Night Moon.”

A dad was left completely perplexed and questioning his own intelligence after struggling to help his first grader complete his homework. So he turned to the Internet for help.

A father was “baffled” by his son’s first-year literature homework, arguing it was beyond even his understanding.

The confused father shared a photo of his son homework sheet on the subreddit, r/HomeworkHelpasking if anyone could crack the code.

The English homework required students to fill in the blanks of sentences with the spellings of the words they were learning. The words: fist, fast, puff, hiss, mess, less, gas, mass and class.

The first few sentences were pretty simple (“The snake will *erase* you and “Let’s clean this *empty*).

However, they have become more difficult. A few seemed more complex, with the possibility of multiple answers (“I love my *virgin*” and “Our *virgin* has white stars”).

The father admitted that his son’s homework had left him perplexed and asked the other editors if they could finish all the sentences.

Although some people were able to make sense of it, they argued that the task was far beyond the scope of what a first grader should learn.

“Why would a first grader know a physics question?” “” one user commented, referring to the word “mass.”

“This is a ridiculous mission” noted another user.

“I think they are supposed to learn four letter words,” wrote another, criticizing the difficulty of the task.

Others, perplexed, like the father, suggested that perhaps there was an error, making some sentences impossible to complete.

First graders are too young to be stressed about homework.

According to the National Education Associationstudents should receive no more than 10 minutes of homework per grade level per evening. For a first grader, this means 10 minutes maximum. This mission certainly seemed to require more time than the recommended guidelines suggest.

Beyond that, however, they should not worry about an assignment that might contain errors. This is not only time consuming but also frustrating for children who are just beginning their educational journey.

According to a Stanford report, 56% of students consider homework their main source of stress (as if they don’t already have to deal with enough stress at school).

Homework shouldn’t be this hard.

At most, it should be a short activity that keeps students’ minds fresh about new information learned in class and allows them to enjoy their time at home.

The only “mess” they should worry about (rather than the note on their homework) is the one their parents ask them to clean up in the playroom.
