Bill Hagerty defends MSNBC Matt Gaetz for AG

Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) defended Matt Gaetz as that of Donald Trump candidate for attorney general during a fiery segment on MSNBC Thursday.

Tennessee lawmaker joined MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell for an interview in which he discussed Trump’s recent decision to tap the controversial conservative conservative to lead the Justice Department.

Before resigning from Congress on Wednesday, Gaetz faced a House Ethics Committee investigation following multiple allegations of misconduct related to sex trafficking and drug use.

Hagerty told Mitchell he was more concerned about “the militarization of the Justice Department” while asserting that “the American public has completely lost confidence in the DOJ.”

MITCHELL: But what about his personal best? There are questions about him. He was in the House, sharing photos of women, talking about bragging about his sexual exploits, the medications he was taking, the drugs he was using. You know, his ethics investigation has not yet been published. It was cut. This project was to be voted on tomorrow, but his resignation was aborted. What about all the questions and allegations against him? His co-conspirator and friend are serving 11 years in prison for sex trafficking. I mean, there was a lot to investigate there.

HAGERTY: Andrea, you speak, you said it yourself. These are allegations. It’s surprising that you are more upset by the allegations than by the militarization of the Justice Department. The American public has completely lost confidence in the DOJ. Think about it. The DOJ sends its agents to spy on parents who attend, you know, school board meetings. It’s simply incredible. As the American public has seen all of this, they see that someone like Matt Gaetz is willing to stand up and say this is wrong. And President Trump wants to put someone in office who will change all that.
