Snowy peaks, rainy valleys and violent winds

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) –

An early weather day extends through Tuesday due to watches and advisories issued by the National Weather Service. Turbulent weather conditions are expected to trigger a frost watch, as well as numerous winter weather advisories.

Monitoring and notices:

A frost watch has been put in place for freezing temperatures as low as 28°. Central Gunnison, Delta, Montrose, Hotchkiss and the Uncompahgre River Basin are affected areas.

Winter weather advisories have been issued across Colorado. 6 to 12 inches of snow and winds of 40 to 45 mph are expected over Grand Mesa, Battlement Mesa, West Elk Mountains, Swatch Mountains and the northwest San Juan Mountains. This includes the towns of Skyway, Vail, Aspen, Snowmass, Crested Butte, Marble, Telluride and Ouray.

3 to 8 inches of snow is detailed in a winter weather advisory for the Elkhead Mountains, Park Mountains and Flat Tops.

3 to 12 inches of snow, accompanied by wind gusts of 45 mph, are detailed in a winter weather advisory for Cumbres Pass and Wolf Creek Pass.

Locally:

Temperatures in the Grand Valley continue to drop heading into Wednesday. Grand Junction is expected to reach a high of 57° today, with lows expected to reach the 30s overnight. Other locations today follow a similar concept, with highs in the mid to low 50s.
