QB Caleb Williams: Bears ‘need to adapt quickly’ with new offensive coordinator

Bear strategist Caleb Williams said he “will have to adapt quickly” now that the Bears have replaced offensive coordinator Shane Waldron with Thomas Brown.

“It’s tough,” Williams said Wednesday. “You have been working for several months (together)… The guy you were trying to get on the same page with is no longer there. Now we have to adapt.

He said he and Brown plan to marry the running game with the passing game to create “a few easy passes, a few extra layups.” They’ll need it – statistically, Williams has been the worst starting quarterback in the NFL over the past three weeks.

He was sacked nine times Sunday and said Wednesday he held the ball too long.

“I took a few bags with me that I shouldn’t have,” he said. “Getting back to getting the ball out of my hands, being decisive, is really important right now.”

Williams said he played no role in Waldron’s firing.

“I don’t get to choose the decision, or whether the decision is good, bad or indifferent,” Williams said. “My job is to listen.”
