The San Francisco 49ers have signed a defensive end position Jonathan Garvin to the practice squad as they prepare for their Week 12 game against the Green Bay Packers. Garvin was on the roster in August and spent a few stints on the 49ers’ practice squad before being released on October 24.

The move comes amid uncertainty surrounding the defensive end. Nick Bosawho suffers from a hip and oblique injury which could compromise his availability for the next match.

The 49ers communications staff provided the following recap.

Garvin (6-4, 257) was originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round (242nd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Throughout his three-year NFL career with the Packers (2020-22), Garvin appeared in 38 games (one start) and recorded 32 tackles, two passes defended and 1.5 sacks. Following his release from the Packers on July 28, 2023, Garvin spent time with the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL), where he recorded 19 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Garvin recently signed with the 49ers practice squad on October 2, 2024 and was released from the practice squad on October 24.

A native of Lake Worth Beach, Fla., Garvin, 25, attended the University of Miami (2017-19), where he appeared in 38 games (24 starts) and recorded 106 tackles, 29 tackles for loss , 12.5 sacks, five passes defensed and four forced fumbles.
