Fire weather watch affecting northeastern Pennsylvania Saturday

On Thursday at 2:31 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a fire weather alert effective for Saturday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. for southern Wayne as well as Wyoming, Lackawanna, Luzerne and Pike counties.

Winds are expected to be from the northwest at 8 to 12 mph with gusts of 20 to 25 mph, especially in the higher terrain of the Poconos, and humidity as low as 25 to 30 percent.

“Fires that develop are likely to spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended,” describes the weather service.

According to the weather service, a fire weather watch means critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for future forecasts and possible red flag warnings.

Advance Local Weather Alerts is a service provided by United Robots, which uses machine learning to compile the latest data from the National Weather Service.
