Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar are giving up their salaries to keep “The View” on the air?

A rumor is circulating on the Internet that television presenters Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar are giving up their salaries for six months to continue broadcasting their show. The Facebook page of America’s last line of defense published this on October 28, 2024:

Whoopi and Joy give up their salaries for 6 months to keep The View off the chopping block: “The show has been losing money for years.”

(Facebook/America’s Last Line of Defense)

The post had received 1,100 reactions and 562 comments as of this writing. Some readers seemed to interpret the rumor as a factual account of real events. However, there was no evidence that The View was in danger of losing its place on the airwaves.

On the contrary, the pinned comment below the post indicated that the rumor that its presenters were to take a pay cut came from the Dunning-Kruger era — a website that describes its output as humorous or satirical in nature. It is About page states:

Dunning-Kruger-Times.com is an affiliate of the parody, satire and joke network “America’s Last Line of Defense”, or as Snopes called it before losing its war on satire: Junk News

Everything on this site is fiction. This is not a lie or fake news because it is not real. If you believe this is real, you should have your head examined. Any similarities between the pure fantasy of this site and real people, places and events are purely coincidental and all images should be considered altered and satirical. See above if you still have a problem with this satire.

The fictional story spread as Goldberg has refuted several claims Podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan has spoken out about an appearance former US President Donald Trump made on The View.

America’s Last Line of Defense (ALLOD) has a history of inventing stories to share and comment on, sometimes relying on artificial intelligence (AI) writing software to tell its story.

Snopes has previously addressed similar satirical claims from the Dunning-Kruger Times, including the claim that television personality Oprah Winfrey had embezzled money intended for charity and a rumor that fast food chain McDonald’s has confirmed that it has already done so fired Vice President Kamala Harris.
