Eagles injury report: Updates on Darius Slay, Mekhi Becton and Dallas Goedert ahead of game against Jags

PHILADELPHIA — THE Eagles have returned to the practice field in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and it appears they could be without three of their starters.

The player most likely to return against the Jags is right guard Mekhi Becton, who sat out Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals after suffering a concussion during the Eagles’ Week 7 win over the New York Giants. Tyler Steen did an admirable job filling in for Becton, who missed time in three different games this season, and he was getting reps at left guard on Wednesday while Landon Dickerson appeared to be taking a day off after practice.

Becton was, however, back on the training ground on Wednesday.

The same cannot be said for tight Dallas Goedert and cornerback Darius Kill.

Goedert injured his hamstring just three times in the Eagles’ game against the Browns and hasn’t been on the practice field since. The Eagles opted not to place the veteran tight end on injured reserve in hopes he wouldn’t suffer an extended absence, but he could be set to miss his third straight game. Grant Calcaterra started in his place and played the most productive football of his career, catching eight passes for 130 yards in the Eagles’ final three games.

Slay, meanwhile, hasn’t played a full game since week two. He was dealing with an injury to the same knee he surgically repaired late last season, but on Sunday against the Bengals he left the game with a groin injury. He was not on the training field on Wednesday. Isaiah Rodgers did an outstanding job filling in for Slay and he created a turnover in the win over the Bengals by deflecting a Joe Burrow pass to safety CJ Gardner-Johnson for an interception.

They already know this left tackle Jordan Mailata will miss his third straight game as he recovers from a serious left hamstring injury which placed him on the injured reserve list. Mailata was injured during the Eagles game Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns and he won’t even be eligible to return until the team’s Thursday, Nov. 14 game against the Washington Commanders. In all likelihood, Mailata’s absence will extend beyond this game.

Fred Johnson started in place of Mailata and, after a rough outing in Week 7 against the New York Giants, he played exceptionally well on Sunday against Cincinnati Bengals three-time Pro Bowler Trey Hendrickson. The Eagles did not allow a sack in the game and Hendrickson only managed two pressures.

The 2-6 Jaguars will be without No. 2 receiver Christian Kirk, who suffered a broken collarbone in the team’s loss to Green Bay in Week 8. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said said Wednesday that he thinks No. 2 running back Travis Etienne (hamstring) and No. 3 receiver Gabe Davis (shoulder) should be ready to play.
